We decided to take a trip to see the Virginia bluebells. They are located in the Bull Run Regional Park which is a 45 minute drive from DC.
It is free to visit but there is an out of state fee, $8 per vehicle.
To get to the trail, you want to park in the Atlantis Waterpark parking lot. You will need to cross the street to get to the trail and it will
be just off the Bull Run Occoquan Trail.
📌 There are several port a potties in the Atlantis Waterpark parking lot.
The bluebells peak bloom in Mid-April every year.
The trail is 1.8 miles. It was easy and kid friendly. It opens from sunrise to sunset. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be on a leash. The trail takes you into the forrest and at certain points you become surrounded by the bluebells. You will also pass a stream. The trail is absolutely beautiful.
The trail can get muddy. I suggest hiking boots or rain boots. I linked the ones we use here:

After the trail , we checked out a playground up the street. We had lunch here and let the kids run around. The playground has a shaded picnic area with benches and clean bathrooms.

We checked out a display of the Civil War Winter Quarters which was across the street from the playground. It was neat to see!
